Eye Floaters & Flashes

Vision Health Concerns

Have you ever noticed a spot in your vision? You may be experiencing a floater. Floaters are tiny floating particles in the fluid inside the eye. As they float they move in and out of your vision and are sometimes noticeable. Floaters are more common as you age due to normal degeneration of fluid and tissues in and surrounding the eye. They may also be caused by a trauma to the eye or eye area releasing particles into the fluid.

Most floaters are a normal occurrence and are more annoying than an issue.  However, if you are experiencing a higher than normal volume of floaters or flashes of light seek an eyecare professional opinion immediately as it could be an indication of something more serious such as a retinal detachment or retinal hole. Ongoing, regular eye health examinations will ensure that there is no cause for concern.
